Remember When Body Hair Was Sexy?

Click here to see a larger version of the picture to the right. I
decided to write something about this picture because I think it is a picture
of an old roommate of mine that I will call John. The tell tale signs are
Nascar, a hairy back, and Dale Earnhardt's number 3. Those were all things that
John spent most of his time focusing on. The other thing that gave it away is
that I sort of feel sorry for the guy in the picture as I used to feel sorry
for my roommate John.
You see John had a lot of body hair and he was always fixating on it. He would
trade favors for "back shavings." In other words he would fix someone’s
computer on the condition that later on they would shave his back. One time I
came home and found John shaving his legs on the living room couch. After we
had a little talk, John ended his shaving his legs on the couch routine and
discovered some chemical's on the Internet that guaranteed effective body hair
removal. All that did was move his hair shavings from the living room to the
shower. At least all that hair was easier to clean up in the shower.
What made me feel sorry for John was the fact that he had come of age in the
90's rather than the 70's and early 80's. You see in the 70's and 80's John
would have been an Icon; the ultimate sex symbol. Those were the days of Burt
Renolds in "Smokey and the Bandit", Tom Selleck in "Magnum
P.I", and David Hasselhoff in "Night Rider". Those men wore
their body hair with pride. Back then men were allowed to be men. Now those
same men who were idolized for their unbuttoned shirts, and jungle like body
hair are forced to hide what was once their trademark. Today women want men to
be more like women: silky smooth and hairless.
The pressure is so great for men to be hairless that even the once mighty David
Hasselhoff has been forced to groom his body hair. He is no longer the manly
man he used to be. Now he looks more like his young body waxing co-star's.
Now personally I think this hairless men expectation is getting a little out of
hand. Why do women want men to look like women anyway? I don't know of one man who
wants women to look more like men. I don't know of one man who wishes that women
were hairier.
Still John does have a few rays of hope to hold on to. First, there are women
out there who are still fond of the sexy men of the 80's. In fact from the looks of the picture, John has already found
himself one of these women. Second, trends tend to repeat themselves. Why not
grow some body hair to go with latest Throw Back Jersey?
